Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Book Review

If you enjoy Japanese anime and manga, you’ll likely enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen. This series follows the adventures of high school student Yuta Okkotsu, who is terrified of losing his childhood friend, Rika, who has become a cursed spirit. His plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school for exorcists. So he convinces Yuta to enroll.

In this manga adaptation, the main character, Yuta Okkotsu, suffers from spiritual possession. His dead best friend’s spirit resides in him. However, the two are reunited after Yuta dies thanks to a promise he made to his friend. This is a story about the power of love and the dark side of human nature. While this story is a bit macabre, readers will surely enjoy it nonetheless.

The Jujutsu Kaisen o volume opens with a character about to be executed. This is Yuta’s first time in Jujutsu, and he is one of the most powerful students at the school. He’s currently studying abroad, but returns to Japan in January 2020 to enrol as one of the four first-year students. He is a student at Jujutsu High and is a fan favorite.

The author, Gege Akutami, has aged the characters in her later series. In Jujutsu Kaisen o, the characters are younger, but the cursed speech of Inumaki comes to life in the book. As a result, the story focuses on Okkotsu, a former member of the school’s jujutsu club. Although Okkotsu’s curse is distorted, it still makes him a formidable opponent. But this power also feels rushed, which is not surprising for a manga series.
